FAQ
What is HALAR Mode
HALAR is a patented technology that uses a proprietary flashing pattern of red and green light that is highly effective for optical distraction and disruption.
How is HALAR's Optical Distruption Technology different from strobing white light?
1. The human eye is most sensitive to Green light in both daytime (photopic) and nighttime (scotopic) vision. This means that green light produces the impression of the highest “brightness” compared to light at other wavelengths.
2. Exposing the eye to different colors, especially red and green, interferes with depth perception. This is the principle behind 3D glasses at movie theaters, which put red in front of one eye and blue in front of the other to get a 3D effect.
3. Flashing colors interfere with the brain’s perception of objects. Sometimes called the “Kaleidoscope effect,” they slow down a person’s reaction time.
4. The frequency of a flashing light can significantly increase the distraction and disorientation effects. A flashing light at the right frequency—neither too fast nor too slow—can be more disruptive than a steady light.
This means the right frequency of flashing, alternating, red and green light is much more effective than strobing white light in causing glare, visual disruption and disorientation.
How does HALAR work without causing permanent eye damage?
HALAR uses eye-safe LED technology and will not cause any eye damage if used as recommended. We use only genuine, certified Cree® LEDs with factory-tested specifications to ensure eye-safety. In addition, the eye will blink as a reflex response to bright visible light and this protects against over-exposure. Alternatively, subjects will avert their eyes.
Nevertheless, do not stare into the light for prolonged periods.
How many lumens are the red and green LEDS?
The HALAR Stun Mode uses Hi Red (310 lm) and Hi Green (400lm) light.
The low map lights use steady Lo Red (80 lm) and Lo Green (90 lm). These can be accessed through the side-switch only.
Is HALAR TAC-1 waterproof or water-resistant?
HALAR TAC-1 has an IPX4 rating. This means the device can handle splashes of water from any direction, like light rain or sweat. However, it shouldn't be submerged in water or exposed to heavy or long water exposure.
What kind of batteries does HALAR TAC-1 use?
18650 Li-ion rechargeable battery
