While working a routine security shift at a downtown nightclub, I encountered a male subject who was harassing patrons as they approached the entrance. After giving the individual a verbal directive to move along, he became verbally aggressive and refused to comply.
When verbal de-escalation failed, I deployed my Halar TAC-1 tactical light to gain compliance and control the situation. The high-intensity white beam immediately drew the subject’s attention and created distance between him and the incoming patrons. However, the subject grew more agitated, adopting an aggressive stance and refusing to vacate the property.
At this point, I switched the Halar TAC-1 to strobe mode, alternating red and green lights. The strobe effect effectively disrupted the subject’s visual focus and provided me with concealment as I advanced to go hands-on and physically escort him off the premises.
The Halar TAC-1 proved highly effective in this incident. The strobe function provided visual disorientation without causing harm, allowing me to safely close distance and maintain control. From a security operations standpoint, I consider this tactical light a valuable tool for managing non-compliant individuals while minimizing escalation.
